A man in his 20s suffered serious spinal injuries when he dived off a boat Friday and struck his head near Crane Beach.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. and were updated en route that the man was unconscious and being treated at Steep Hill Beach, according to a release.
“Upon arrival, units found the male to be conscious and being attended to by Crane Beach personnel,” officials said.
The man was taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington by a medical helicopter, which landed on the beach.
“A special thanks goes to the bystanders who pulled the victim from the water, and to the two bystander physicians who performed life-saving measures that likely averted a fatality,” Ipswich Fire Chief Paul Parisi said in a statement.
