Woman says her dog helped her escape when she was accosted by man in Rockland woods

The woman, who was walking her dog in Rockland, said the dog "lunged" at a man after he grabbed the woman's arm.

A dog jumped to its owner’s rescue after its owner was “grabbed” by a man in the Rockland Town Forest on Wednesday, police said.

The woman, who was walking her dog, said the man made “inappropriate comments” toward her. When she attempted to walk away, the man “aggressively” grabbed her arm, Rockland police said in a statement.

The woman’s dog then leapt at the man, police said, and the man let go of the woman. The woman was able to rush back to her car.

Rockland police described the man as white with a medium build, appearing to be in his 50s. He had short, dark hair and was reportedly wearing a white shirt and khaki shorts. The man did not have any visible markings or a distinct accent, the department said.

Chief Nicholas T. Zeoli said the police searched the area and did not find the man.

Some commenters praised the dog on Facebook, calling them “a good boy” and requesting the owner give them “extra treats.”

Police are requesting anyone who has information about the man or surveillance footage in the area of North Avenue Salem Street of anyone resembling the man to call Rockland Police at 781-871-3890.
