Man, 77, dead in apparent Fairhaven drowning

The man was pulled from the water Tuesday.

A man died Tuesday in an apparent drowning near a boat ramp at Seaview Avenue in Fairhaven, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

Emergency personnel responded to a call for a possible drowning around 5 p.m.

At the scene, first responders found Wayne Silveira, 77, of Acushnet, who was unconscious at the boat ramp after being pulled from Nasketucket Bay. A civilian was performing CPR at the time.

Silveira was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.

The investigation into his death remains open, although it’s not considered suspicious, the DA’s office said.
