A teenage boy was pronounced dead after a drowning incident in Framingham on Sunday, local officials said.
Emergency workers responded to a report of a drowning incident at Learned Pond in Framingham on Sunday, the Framingham police and fire departments said in a joint statement.
Emergency services began search and rescue efforts “within minutes,” and the diving team pulled a 16-year-old boy out of the water shortly after, officials said.
First responders performed lifesaving measures on the boy both on the scene and on the way to MetroWest Medical Center-Framingham, but the boy was pronounced dead at a hospital, the statement said.
“We want to thank our firefighters, police officers, EMS crews and mutual aid partners for their swift response,” Framingham Fire Chief Michael Dutcher said. “This is a heartbreaking incident for all involved.”
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Our officers and first responders did everything they could, and our thoughts remain with everyone impacted by this tragedy” Acting Police Chief Sean Riley said.
