MSPCA-Angell issued a call for adopters on Monday after the animal shelter took in 22 alpacas.
“It’s an alpaca-lypse at Nevins Farm,” the MSPCA said, referencing its Methuen shelter.
The alpacas, six males and 16 females, range in age from 8 to 14 years old, according to the MSPCA.
“They all came from a single home where they were loved deeply, as a result some of them are very bonded and we would love to send those friends home together, but no need to place the whole herd together!” the animal shelter wrote on Facebook.
Alpacas, small relatives of the camel domesticated for their wool, are social herd animals and need at least one other alpaca to thrive, according to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo.
The MSPCA is asking anyone interested in adopting one of the alpacas to fill out an inquiry form.
