Fall River fire victim reported dead Thursday is still alive, DA says

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said it erroneously reported 66-year-old Brenda Cropper dead due to a “miscommunication.”

A 66-year-old woman remains alive in critical condition Friday after authorities reported she had died from injuries sustained in the fatal Gabriel House assisted living facility fire in Fall River.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said it mistakenly announced Brenda Cropper’s death Thursday due to a miscommunication with a medical agency.

The DA’s office said it has been in contact with Cropper’s family regarding the error, adding, “We will provide updates when they become available.”

Sunday’s five-alarm fire killed nine Gabriel House residents and injured dozens more. The fire’s cause remains under investigation, though authorities believe it was accidental.
