Two off-duty Leicester police officers were struck and seriously injured last Thursday by an alleged drunk driver, according to the Leicester Police Alliance.
The officers, Eddie Santiago and Stephen Kustigian, were riding their motorcycles on Summer Street in Worcester when the driver pulled out in front of them, the alliance said in a Facebook post.
A witness applied a tourniquet to one of the officers at the scene. The officers were then transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center, where they remained Tuesday, with injuries including “a shattered pelvis, spinal fractures, a broken arm, a broken leg, a broken scapula, a broken clavicle, a collapsed lung, numerous transfusions, a chest tube, and facial lacerations.”
“Both of these dedicated public servants have long recoveries ahead of them and will need our help,” the post states. “Even in their extreme pain, they are both anxious to recover fully and return to their beat here in Leicester.”
The alliance said a crowdfunding effort would be announced Wednesday.
