An escaped emu dashed in front of a police car in Brunswick, Maine Monday night in startling dashboard camera footage released on the Brunswick Police’s Facebook page.

Brunswick police officers Cory Clark and Paige Michaud responded to reports of a “large bird” spotted on a road, and were stunned to find an emu who had escaped from its owner’s yard, the department said.

After the flightless bird bolted in front of the police car, as shown in dashboard camera footage, it reportedly perched “comfortably” in the Midcoast Hospital parking lot.

The officers waited with the bird until its owner came to collect it, the post said.
