A Lynn elementary school student has died reportedly in a car crash in Guatemala, according to school officials and an online fundraiser.
Bradley Solis Esteban was a student at Ingalls Elementary School, Lynn Public Schools Superintendent Evonne Alvarez confirmed in a statement.
“We extend our sincere sympathy to Bradley’s family, who are also mourning the death of his grandmother,” Alvarez said. “Bradley was a beloved member of the Ingalls School community who will be sorely missed.”
Esteban, 12, and his grandmother Silvia Lopez died in a car accident in Guatemala, according to a GoFundMe organized by Kelly Mendez-Aguilar. She did not return a request for comment.
Esteban was traveling to Guatemala with siblings to visit family, the GoFundMe said, where the 12-year-old boy and his grandmother died in a car accident “as they voyaged on a long-awaited road trip together.”
As of Sunday evening, the fundraiser had reached its goal of $5,000 to help with the child’s funeral expenses.
“What was supposed to be a memorable and joyful trip turned into a devastating experience for the family,” the GoFundMe said. “We ask that the Lynn community join this family in thoughts and prayers as they await the body of their son Bradley to arrive back into the United States for a last goodbye.”
