Did your hometown make the cut?

A new list ranking the 25 best places to live in the Boston area named Brookline as the top metro-area town to hang your hat.

Stacker’s ranking was based on data from Niche, which uses 15 weighted factors for its rankings. Each community’s score is based on cost of living, higher education rate, housing, public schools, diversity, and crime, according to Stacker.

Coming in after Brookline were Cambridge, Lexington, Belmont, and Newton. Each of those communities snagged a Niche grade of A+.

Cambridge is no stranger to lists naming the “best places to live.” In March, Boston Magazine ranked the city as the number one place to live in Greater Boston. In 2023, Niche named Cambridge the best city to live in the entire nation.

Last on Stacker’s list was Westwood, which came in at number 25. Medway came in at number 24, Sherborn at number 23, and Groton at number 22. Despite their “bottom” rankings, each of those towns still managed to grab an A grade or higher from Niche.
