R.I. man arrested, accused of threatening to kill Donald Trump, Pamela Bondi, Stephen Miller in online post

Carl Montague, 37, is facing multiple charges, including making threats against the president.

A Rhode Island man was arrested Wednesday on charges that he threatened to kill President Donald Trump, U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, authorities said

Carl Montague, 37, is charged with making threats against the president; interstate threats; and threats to assault, kidnap, or murder a U.S. official, judge, or law enforcement office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island announced. He was scheduled to appear in court in Providence Wednesday.

Prosecutors allege that Montague posted a “profanity-laced” message on Truth Social on June 27, in which he threatened to shoot and kill Trump, Bondi, and Miller. According to an affidavit, Montague allegedly confessed to making the threats to agents before they explained who they were or why they were approaching him. He allegedly told officers he was “smoking a lot of marijuana when he posted the threat,” claiming he deleted his Truth Social after sending the message.

“Montague was upset with current politics and expressed his frustrations via Truth Social,” the affidavit reads, later noting that the Rhode Island man told law enforcement he did not intend to shoot or inflict violence on government officials.

According to investigators, he does not own or have access to any weapons, nor did he have plans or the means to travel to conduct violence.

“Montague expressed remorse for his post,” the affidavit states.

The incident remains under investigation by the FBI, Secret Service, and Providence police.
