A 9-year-old boy is dead after he experienced “medical distress” at a Massachusetts beach, officials say.
The boy — who was from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, but who hasn’t been publicly identified — was swimming at Jones Beach in Dartmouth on Sunday evening, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. At about 7:30 p.m., he exited the water on his own but then began experiencing the distress.
When emergency personnel responding to a 911 call arrived at the scene, bystanders were performing CPR on the boy, officials said. He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“This matter is under investigation but not deemed suspicious at this time,” the DA’s office said.
