North Shore whale watch boat gets up close to 2 white sharks
Two great white sharks were spotted about 10 miles off Gloucester's coast Wednesday, as captured in several photos and a video.
A Gloucester whale watching company spotted two great white sharks Wednesday, a special sighting just 10 miles from the city’s coast.
7 Seas Whale Watch left for one of its daily trips and the boat’s naturalist spotted a fin half a mile ahead of them, according to a social media post from the company. Basking and blue sharks — the two most common sightings on the agency’s trips — were ruled out based on the look of the dorsal fin.
Suspecting either a great white or a mako shark, the boat attempted to move slowly toward the shark to help the chances of it staying on the surface, the agency noted. Once close enough, staff confirmed the shark was a great white, only seen a handful of times by 7 Seas Whale Watch in its 42 years in business.

A second great white joined the first, swimming in circles close to the boat near the surface and allowing for several photos and a video.
