A man wanted in connection to a shooting that injured eight people during a Caribbean festival in Boston was caught in Georgia, police announced Wednesday.

Gerald Vick, 31, was apprehended in Lithia Springs, Georgia Wednesday after a six-month investigation by the Boston Police Fugitive Unit, the department said. He was taken into custody without incident by U.S. Marshals.

In August of 2023, eight people were injured in a shooting just before 8 a.m. on the outskirts of the J’ouvert Parade in Dorchester. One person was seriously injured, police said at the time, but all of the injuries were non-life threatening. Six people were hospitalized, and two declined treatment, police said.

Four men, including Vick, were initially charged with gun-related crimes in connection with the shooting in February of 2024. Dwayne Francis, Hubman Hunter, and Sebastian Monteiro were also charged.

Vick was later charged with 14 counts: eight counts of assault and battery with a firearm, unlawful possession of a machine gun, unlawful possession of a firearm, and firearm use in commission of a felony, according to Suffolk Superior Court records.

Police alleged that Vick had a 9 mm pistol with a large capacity magazine, equipped with a “Glock switch” to allow the firearm to continuously fire.

Vick cut off his ankle monitor the night before his scheduled trial in December, police said. The court then issued a warrant for his arrest and defaulted his bail, according to court records.

Francis pleaded not guilty in February of 2024 to gun charges, including possessing a large capacity feeding device, according to court records. His trial date is expected to be set next week.

Hunter was found not guilty earlier this year, and Monteiro pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license in October 2024, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney.

Vick’s attorney did not return a request for comment.
