Trooper hit, seriously injured by stolen motorcycle in Revere

This is the second time a state trooper has been injured while on a roadway this month.

A person riding a stolen motorcycle struck a Massachusetts State Police trooper in Revere on Monday, seriously injuring him and throwing him 45 feet, authorities said.

According to court documents, Akram Elmoukhtari, 18, of Revere pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Chelsea District Court and was held on a $50,000 cash bail.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the suspect, Akram Elmoukhtari, 18, of Revere, was set to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court Tuesday morning.

The Suffolk District Attorney’s office said Elmoukhtari is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (motorcycle) and receiving stolen property in connection with the incident, while court documents indicate Elmoukhtari’s second charge is receiving a stolen motor vehicle and he is also facing a leaving the scene of personal injury charge.

The pretrial hearing for Elmoukhtari is scheduled for July 18.

According to State Police, a motorcycle struck the trooper, who was outside of his cruiser, on Revere Beach Boulevard shortly before 5 p.m., and the rider then fled the scene on foot.

EMS transported the trooper to a Boston hospital, where he was in critical condition.

“My thoughts are with the injured trooper, his family and the entire Department during this difficult time,” Gov. Maura Healey said in a statement. “I wish him strength and healing in the days ahead.”

The incident marks the second time a state trooper has been injured while working along a roadway this month. A driver hit a trooper who was conducting an early morning traffic stop on the Mass. Pike in Chicopee on June 10.

“This incident is another stark reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face every day,” Healey said of Monday’s incident. “I am grateful for their continued bravery and service.”
