A second victim in a Beverly plane crash has died days after suffering serious injuries, according to prosecutors.
The victim, who has not been publicly identified, succumbed to their injuries after being hospitalized, a spokesperson from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office told Boston.com.
The plane crashed just before 9 a.m. shortly after taking off from Beverly Regional Airport, according to Beverly police. The pilot, Geoffrey Andrews, 30, of Melrose, was also killed in the crash.
First responders found the two victims trapped inside the single-engine plane, which had been badly damaged. The plane appeared to be resting up against a utility pole, according to authorities.
The second victim was seriously injured and flown to a hospital via medical helicopter, according to police and fire officials. No injuries or any property damage on the ground were reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board are expected to investigate the crash, according to the FAA.
