Here’s what to know about the state’s new commemorative 250th license plate
A new commemorative license plate lets Bay State drivers flaunt their MA250 pride.
Massachusetts motorists may notice a patriotic new license plate hitting the roads this month.
In celebration of 250 years of America’s independence and Massachusetts’ revolutionary legacy, the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has unveiled a commemorative specialty license plate.
The plate features the state name in red at the top, a blue background, the year “1776” encircled by 13 white stars, and the phrase “250 Years of Independence” written across the bottom.
According to Mass.gov, the specialty two-year passenger plate is part of the state’s MA250 festivities and has been available to order online at Mass.Gov/myRMV since May 22.

“With this specialty plate, motorists can proudly display their connection to Massachusetts and its pivotal role in the American Revolution,” said Transportation Secretary & CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt. “From the founding of our nation to the present day, Massachusetts has been a leader on the issues that matter most. This plate is a meaningful way to celebrate the history, spirit, and pride we all share for the Commonwealth.”
The total standard plate fee is $100, which includes the typical $60 registration fee plus a $40 special plate fee.
