Deer bursts through Portsmouth, N.H., restaurant’s window

The Friendly Toast delayed its opening on Friday morning due to the unexpected visitor.

Seemingly out of nowhere, a deer crashed through a glass window and into the Friendly Toast in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on Friday morning.

Security footage shared on the restaurant’s Instagram page shows glass flying as the deer bursts into the customer-less restaurant around 7 a.m., just as staff were getting ready to open.

“Our talented (and brave) sous chef got the deer out our back door without any issues and we didn’t observe any injuries,” the Friendly Toast wrote, also noting no staff members were injured.

The restaurant, which delayed its opening to fix the window, still called police to check on the deer.

The post garnered some fun comments.

“Wow he really wanted pancakes this morning,” said one.

“The friendly toast is so good even the local deer want in!,” said another.

And, “That deer was in desperate need of a Bloody Mary and a sklarmageddon.”

Of course, there was the ubiquitous “Oh deer!,” too.

Founded in 1994, according to its website, the Friendly Toast started at its Portsmouth location and now serves “Benedict and mimosas” in 14 locations across New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine.
