One man is dead and another seriously injured after a small plane crashed in Beverly Thursday morning, according to local police.
Emergency crews responded to the crash around 8:49 a.m., a Beverly Police Department spokesperson confirmed. The plane crashed in the area of 106 Sam Fonzo Drive, near the Beverly Regional Airport.
First responders arrived at the scene to find two men trapped inside the badly damaged single-engine piston aircraft, Beverly’s police and fire departments said in a press release. The plane appeared to be resting against a utility pole, authorities said.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was flown seriously injured to a hospital via medical helicopter, according to police and fire officials. Authorities have not publicly identified either man.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, two people were on board the Mooney M20 when it crashed Thursday. Further details about the circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately available. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are expected to investigate.
There were no reports of any ground injuries or additional property damage in the area, Beverly officials said.
