A Lynn man pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to charges that he threatened to murder an elected official and their family last year, authorities announced.
Justin David Gaglio, 51, pleaded guilty to one count of transmitting interstate threats, the office of U.S. Attorney Leah Foley said in a statement.
Gaglio was accused of contacting the elected official between January 2023 and September 2024 using online submissions through the official’s website. Authorities said Gaglio sent in more than 80 messages during that time period, sometimes sending multiple messages in quick succession.
The U.S. Attorney’s office said on Sept. 8 2024, Gaglio submitted a contact request through the official’s website, threatening in the message to “violently murder” the elected official and their family. Gaglio was arrested in September and charged in October last year.
The charge of transmitting interstate threats can result in a sentence of up to 20 years of prison. Gaglio is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 9 for sentencing.
