A 32-year-old Dorchester man was convicted Wednesday of raping a woman in the bathroom of the Fenway bar where he worked as a bouncer in 2022.
Michael Campbell was found guilty of rape and indecent assault and battery by a jury in Suffolk County Superior Court, the district attorney’s office announced. The jury began deliberations on Monday.
Campbell was working at the Cask ‘n Flagon on Sept. 11, 2022 when, around 1:51 a.m., a woman knocked on the door of the bar and asked to use the restroom. Prosecutors said Campbell let the women inside even though the bar was closed to customers and the restaurant was being shuttered for the evening by staff.
Campbell walked the woman, who was focusing on her phone and unsteady on her feet, into the men’s bathroom where, prosecutors said, he sexually assaulted her.
“These types of cases are always difficult, particularly for the victims who must relive traumatic experiences in order to give jurors a full account of what happened to them,” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said in a statement. “The victim in this case showed great courage and composure on the stand and I thank her, the jurors and everyone who worked on this case for the verdict returned today.”
Campbell is scheduled to return to court on June 23 for sentencing.
