One person was killed and three others were seriously hurt Friday in a multi-vehicle crash in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts State Police announced.
The crash happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Route 3 North at the mile 89 marker, police said.
Troopers from the Andover barracks responded to the scene, as did officers from Nashua, New Hampshire. Multiple ambulances arrived, along with MedFlight, according to the Lowell Sun. Video footage taken by news helicopters showed two severely damaged vehicles lying in the roadway with debris scattered nearby.
The accident shut down all southbound and northbound lanes while officials investigated the scene. Drivers were urged to seek alternate routes. The southbound lanes opened at 3:40 p.m., and the northbound lanes opened just after 6 p.m.
Police did not identify the victims The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
