A person was seriously injured when a car and a tractor-trailer crashed in the early morning hours Thursday at the intersection of Route 3 and I-95 in Burlington, sending several large metal plates across the highway.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, troopers responded to the crash, along with Burlington Fire and EMS, at 6:30 a.m.
EMS transported one person from the car to Lahey Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
During the crash, several large metal plates fell off the tractor-trailer and blocked both sides of the highway. Officials removed the plates by 7:40 a.m.
Fire officials remained on the scene to address leaking fuel from the tractor-trailer as a result of the crash.
Two lanes on the northbound side of the highway remained closed until fire crews contained the leak at 9:15 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the State Police.
