An 8-week-old kitten, who was recently rescued from inside a car’s engine compartment, is now up for adoption.
Belmont Animal Control responded to a resident’s home for a report of meowing coming from the driveway. The team popped open the hood of the resident’s car and found the kitten, who ran from the engine to an old fox den for hiding, according to a statement from the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
The officer lured the kitten out using a YouTube video of a cat’s meow and brought him to ARL’s Dedham Animal Care & Adoption Center for evaluation and care, according to the statement. The kitten, now aptly named Chevy, was deemed healthy after a veterinary exam.
Chevy, who initially weighed just 2 pounds, has since gained a little weight, received vaccinations, and been neutered. The kitten is available for adoption, starting Wednesday at ARL’s Boston Animal Care & Adoption Center, open 1 to 6 p.m.
The ARL noted in the statement that Chevy is the third cat the shelter has assisted following a rescue from a car’s engine compartment this year. The rescue recommends car owners to check their vehicles and bang on the hood before driving to scare off any animals that may be hiding.
