A 22-year-old Salem, Massachusetts, man was arrested Monday after troopers in New Hampshire allegedly saw him driving at speeds around 140 mph.
Brandon E. Babcock is facing multiple charges, including reckless driving and disobeying an officer, according to New Hampshire State Police. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is due back in court in July.
On Monday morning, troopers, including a police aircraft, were monitoring I-93 North in Salem, New Hampshire, for dangerous driving. At 7:45 a.m., they spotted a white 2024 Corvette going 110 mph, officials said, and as they attempted to stop it, the sports car accelerated, passing “other drivers recklessly, across all other lanes of travel.”
The aircraft maintained eyes on the vehicle, observing speeds of about 140 mph and tracking it off Exit 3 into Windham, police said.
A trooper in the aircraft ultimately directed a trooper on the ground to Johnson Road, where they stopped the Corvette and arrested its driver, identified as Babcock.
The morning’s enforcement turned up 111 motor vehicle violations overall, according to police, including 42 drivers traveling at least 90 mph and six going 100 mph or faster.
