Police identify man accused of smashing car with hatchet in Brighton

Boston police said Tuesday they have identified and obtained an arrest warrant for the man caught on video smashing a car with a hatchet in Brighton last week in what authorities have described as a road rage incident. 

Andrew Oprian, 27, of Belmont is facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and willful and malicious destruction of property, police said

Police said officers responded to the area of 1032 Commonwealth Ave. around 11:45 p.m. Friday for a report of a car accident. Responding officers were told that a man armed with a hatchet was smashing the windows of the crashed vehicles.

Police released photos and video of the incident, asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect.
