Falmouth police identify high school senior killed in crash after prom

Friends have taken to social media to share their love for Ava Lodico.

Police have identified the Falmouth High School senior who was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night as Ava Lodico, according to The Boston Globe

Police reported that Lodico attended the Falmouth High School prom before the crash, which happened shortly before 11 p.m. in the area of Acapesket Road and Casey’s Way.

Authorities told the Globe that the car was on fire, and first responders worked quickly to extinguish the flames and extricate Lodico. Emergency personnel took Lodico to Falmouth Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police also told the Globe that Lodico was the only person in the car.

The Falmouth Police Department and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council’s Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” Falmouth police wrote in an initial press release on the crash.

Lodico’s mother told WCVB she was amazed at how many friends her daughter had.

“I didn’t know my daughter had this much of an impact on these kids,” Brandi Santos, her mother, told WCVB. “I’m just at a loss for words.”

Friends also took to social media to share their love for Lodico.

One friend shared photos of them as longtime friends through elementary school and summer camp, saying, “I love you and you will always be my best friend.”

Another friend fondly remembered growing up with Lodico, which was marked by endless sleepovers and days spent creating vlogs and GRWM (get-ready-with-me) videos.

“I love you, Ava Lodico, with everything in me,” her friend wrote.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help her family with expenses.

The Falmouth superintendent and Falmouth police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
