A woman and child were injured Tuesday afternoon after they were struck by a fallen tree branch at a Boston zoo, Boston police said.
The tree branch fell outside the Farmhouse Café at Franklin Park Zoo, prompting a response from zoo staff and emergency personnel, according to a statement from Zoo New England.
State Police responded at about 12:45 p.m., and Boston emergency responders took the child to Boston Children’s Hospital, State Police said in a statement. The adult woman accompanying the child was also taken to a local hospital.
Boston police responded just after 1 p.m. and notified park rangers about the incident, according to Officer Michael Torigian. The child suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Torigian said.
State Police are investigating the matter; no further information about the victims or their conditions was available Tuesday evening.
