Mass. police chief on leave after arrest in domestic incident

Sean Kennedy was arrested Saturday at his Westwood home.

A Massachusetts police chief has been placed on leave after he was arrested Saturday while off duty at his Westwood home.

Sean Kennedy, the chief of the Lincoln Police Department, was arraigned Monday in Dedham District Court on the charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a family/household member, court filings show.

Lincoln Town Administrator Timothy Higgins said in a statement Monday that officials were notified of Kennedy’s arrest on Saturday.

“The Town takes any such allegations very seriously and, consistent with Town Policy, has placed the Chief on administrative leave,” Higgins said. “As with any person under arrest, the Chief is presumed innocent pending the results of the legal process.”

Lincoln officials will be conducting their own internal review, according to Higgins.

According to a police report obtained by WCVB, Kennedy allegedly threw his wife into a wall at their home during an argument. She was treated for facial injuries at a local hospital and required stitches over her eye, according to the station.

Kennedy pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and was released on personal recognizance on the conditions that he have no contact with the victim or witnesses, according to court documents.

An attorney for Kennedy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to WCVB, Lincoln officials will vote to appoint an acting police chief at a select board meeting Monday night.

Kennedy is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on June 26.

He was sworn in as chief in June of 2024, according to a Facebook post from the police department.
