A Milton priest died from his injuries after he was hit by an SUV while riding his bicycle Wednesday, prosecutors said.
Father James B. Doran, 68, was involved in a collision on Route 138 in Milton and was taken to a Boston trauma center, according to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office. He died from his injuries Friday night.
The 85-year-old Hyde Park man who was driving the SUV was not reported injured, Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey and Milton Police Chief John King said in a statement.
Doran was a member of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary at the St. Joseph Retreat House in Milton, the DA’s office said. He was ordained in 1986 and spent nearly two decades as a missionary in Brazil, according to a Facebook post from St. Patrick’s Church in Roxbury.
Milton police, State Police, and the DA’s office are investigating the crash, according to the DA’s office.
“Father Jim lived a life of humble service, prayer, and devotion to Christ, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him,” the congregation said in a statement to The Boston Globe. “We ask for your prayers for the repose of his soul, for his family, and for our Oblate community.”
