Students at a New Hampshire elementary school were evacuated from their classroom Friday morning just before its ceiling collapsed.
The Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue Department said it was called to Carpenter Elementary School in Wolfeboro at 10:30 a.m. for a report of “a sagging ceiling and light fixtures falling down” in a classroom on the second floor of the school.
Shortly after officials started investigating, the ceiling collapsed. Students were dismissed early, and no one was hurt.
“The situational awareness and quick actions of the Carpenter staff prevented any injuries from occurring,” the Fire-Rescue Department wrote in a Facebook post. “All children were evacuated in a calm, safe and [expedited] manner.”
WCVB reported the entire building is now being assessed for structural safety, according to Wolfeboro Superintendent Caroline Arakelian.
