A 78-year-old man has been identified by authorities as the driver who was killed Saturday in Cohasset when his pickup truck was struck by a commuter rail train.
John Canney, a resident of Cohasset, suffered fatal injuries when his truck was hit around 11:20 a.m. at the Beechwood Street railroad crossing, the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office said on Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
Over the weekend, Cohasset Police Chief William Quigley told the Boston Herald that there did not appear to be any issues with the crossing lane equipment. Because the intersection is in a “no whistle zone,” trains do not sound horns or whistles in the area unless there is something in the right-of-way, he said.
The DA’s office said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
