A 35-pound pipe hit and damaged a car in Portland, Maine, on Wednesday, officials say.
At 10:10 p.m., the Portland Police Department was dispatched to the Casco Bay Line parking lot at 56 Commercial St., authorities said.
The pipe shattered the vehicle’s rear window and dented the frame, the department said.
Police initially said that based on the damage and location, the object may have fallen from an airplane.
However, after notifying the Federal Aviation Administration, the agency’s investigation “determined the metal part was a tiedown cleat for a tugboat, not an aircraft part.”
“Our inspector visited the ferry terminal and spoke with the tugboat operator,” the FAA said.
