A man died in a Pelham fire early Friday morning, officials said.
Pelham firefighters arrived at 109 North Valley Road after 2:30 a.m. on April 25 after a passerby called 911, according to a statement from the state Department of Fire Services. Fire consumed the two-family home, and suppression efforts began immediately with assistance from other towns.
After the fire was extinguished in about an hour, first responders found a man in his 30s that had died in the fire, according to the statement. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an identification procedure and determine his cause of death.
“The Pelham Fire Department and our community want to express our condolences to the family that lost a loved one today,” Pelham Fire Chief Dennis Nazzaro said in the statement. “This is a terrible loss for them.”
The building suffered “catastrophic damage,” including some collapse of the roof and walls. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
