Police in Everett are investigating after two employees at the Encore Boston Harbor casino found a dog tied up to the train tracks behind the casino, animal control officials said.

The dog was found Tuesday in “an isolated area” of the Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail train tracks behind the casino, Everett Animal Control said on Facebook. A visible leash that appeared to be chewed off was attached to the tracks, which the dog was close to.

The Everett Fire Department helped officers access the area and save the dog, while Everett Police Dispatch tracked the train arrivals until Animal Control Officer Stacia Gorgone was able to safely secure the dog, the Facebook post says.

Witnesses or anyone with information about how the dog ended up tied to the tracks is asked to call Everett police at 617-387-1212 or email Gorgone at [email protected].
