A 33-year-old Chelsea resident is suffering life-threatening injuries from a shooting on Wednesday night, officials say.
At 10 p.m., police responded to the area of Webster Avenue and Broadway in Chelsea for a report of a possible stabbing victim, authorities said in a statement.
At the scene, officers found a Chelsea resident on the ground with a “significant head injury” from a single gunshot, police said.
The victim, currently in critical condition, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital and taken into emergency surgery, the statement said.
Chelsea detectives collected ballistic evidence and are canvassing the area for video sources, according to police.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the statement said, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office responded to the incident along with Crime Scene Services.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Chelsea Police Department at 617-466-4810.
“This was a brazen act of violence in a busy area of our city,” Chelsea Police Chief Keith Houghton said in the statement. “Our officers and partners at the State Police and DA’s Office are working diligently to identify the suspect and bring accountability.”
