A man working in the kitchen at a prep school in Marion was arrested Wednesday on allegations that he exposed himself to two students in the dining hall.
Joao Andrade, 38, of New Bedford was charged with two counts of open and gross lewdness related to the alleged incident at Tabor Academy, Marion police said in a statement.
According to police, the department received a call from Tabor Academy around 11:58 a.m. on Wednesday after two students reported that a kitchen worker, employed through the school’s contracted food service provider, exposed himself while they were in the dining hall. Andrade was identified by police and arrested following their response and investigation at the school.
“We appreciate Tabor Academy’s prompt reporting and cooperation following this incident,” Marion Chief Richard Nighelli said in a statement. “I would like to thank the Marion Police officers who used their extensive training and expertise to investigate quickly and bring this case to conclusion. I’d also like to thank the New Bedford and Mattapoisett Police departments for providing translation assistance, aiding us in the investigation.”
Tabor Academy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Andrade will likely be arraigned on Thursday, according to police.
