A man accused of killing a Lynn woman and staging the scene to make it look like she took her own life was arraigned Tuesday for her murder.
Thiago Oliveira, 33, of Lynn pleaded not guilty to the charge in Superior Court in Salem, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s office. Prosecutors allege Oliveira murdered 32-year-old Carla Lourenco Da Silva of Lynn on or about January 20. They say he then attempted to make the murder scene in the home on Summer Street in Lynn look the 32-year-old had hung herself.
Oliveira was charged in January with misleading a police investigation.
The DA’s office said Oliveira will continue to be held without bail following his arraignment on the murder charge. The two charges are expected to move forward as one case, according to prosecutors.
An attorney for Oliveira did not immediately respond to a request for comment. He is scheduled to return to court on May 14.
