A Brockton middle school student was slashed with a knife by a classmate Wednesday afternoon, the school district said.
The incident happened during school dismissal outside Joseph Plouffe Middle School.
Jordan Mayblum, a school spokesperson, said the suspect in the slashing was absent from school on Wednesday but returned to the building during dismissal, allegedly getting into a physical altercation with the victim. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.
The student with the blade is in police custody, according to Mayblum.
“We are working closely with School Police and the Brockton Police Department to determine the facts surrounding this incident and we are confident that there is no ongoing threat to school safety,” Mayblum said.
