Thousands of people made their way Saturday to the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common and marched to City Hall Plaza in one of the many “Hands Off!” rallies around the United States to protest the actions and policies of President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
The protest began at 11 a.m. with Chrissy Lynch, president of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, speaking to demonstrators at the Parkman Bandstand. Shortly after, Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey led the march of protestors to City Hall Plaza.
More speakers addressed the protesters once they arrived at City Hall Plaza. Markey, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Representative Ayanna Pressley, and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll were among the handful of notable political figures who spoke. The protest also included a performance from the Dropkick Murphys.
The Boston protest, which was one of the estimated 1,200 “Hands Off” rallies held nationwide, was organized by a handful of local groups and co-sponsors from across Massachusetts. Indivisible Mass Coalition, Mass 50501, Swing Blue Alliance, and UU Mass Action were the primary organizers of the event, according to a press release.
“This is an all-in moment for the pro-worker movement, pro-constitutional rule of law order, and pro-democracy,” organizers said ahead of Saturday’s protest.
Here’s what the scene looked like at the Parkman Bandstand and City Hall Plaza on Saturday.
