Man dies after being pulled from burning car in Hanson

The fire remains under investigation by state and local officials.

Authorities are investigating after a fire in a car claimed the life of a man early Monday morning in Hanson. 

Hanson police and the Hanson Fire Department responded to the area of Union Street just before 3 a.m. for a report of a car on fire in the road, according to a statement from the state’s Department of Fire Services. First responders found a 2012 Chevrolet Impala ablaze, with the engine fully engulfed in flames. 

A man, the only occupant of the vehicle and its apparent driver, was pulled from the car by firefighters, according to officials. He was transported to a local hospital where he later was pronounced dead.

The origin and cause of the fire is being investigated by the Hanson Fire Department, the Hanson Police Department, state police fire investigators, and the Plymouth County DA’s office, according to the Department of Fire Services. The victim’s cause and manner of death will be determined by the chief medical examiner.
