Amtrak service delayed in and out of Boston after wires catch fire in Hyde Park

The Commuter Rail is also experiencing “significant delays.”

Officials are warning Amtrak service in and out of Boston is experiencing delays of more than an hour after a overhead power lines in Hyde Park caught fire Monday afternoon.

Amtrak initially suspended rail service in and out of the city due around 4 p.m. due to the fire department activity and urged passengers to rebook travel.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Amtrak wrote.

As of 5:30 p.m, Amtrak said service has been partially restored but residual delays of up to 90 minutes should be expected.

According to WCVB, power lines above the track near the MBTA’s Hyde Park Station were spotted on fire Monday afternoon. Boston Fire Department district chief Steven Fairnini told the station the blaze may have been related to the day’s weather.

“It may have been the water, we’ve had a couple of these the last two or three weeks,” he told the station. “We think maybe the water is causing the transformers to short out.”

Service on the MBTA’s Commuter Rail is also experiencing “significant delays” as a result of the fire activity.

“Franklin/Foxboro and Providence/Stoughton Line passengers can expect significant delays due to fire department activity at Hyde Park,” the transit agency said. “Trains will bypass Hyde Park and operate via the Fairmount Line stopping at Back Bay and Ruggles.”
