A kidnapping report from a student at a Brockton elementary school was found to be false, police said.
A student at Edgar B. Davis K-8 School reported Tuesday that someone tried to grab her book bag as she was walking in the woods toward her home after school, Boston 25 News reported.
Police canvassed the area but could not find a suspect, according to Boston 25 News. Increased police presence was supposed to take place Wednesday out of an abundance of caution, the station reported.
The Brockton Police Department said in a statement Wednesday that an investigation found no evidence to support the kidnapping claim made by the student.
Brockton school police confirmed that the incident did not take place and that the student admitted to falsifying the claim, according to the statement. Charges for making a false report to police are pending.
