23-year-old woman killed in Methuen pedestrian crash

"Authorities are examining whether poor lighting in the area may have been a contributing factor."

A 23-year-old woman died Tuesday night after being hit by a car in Methuen, police said.

The Methuen Police Department responded at 7:11 p.m. to the crash at 301 Merrimack St., according to a statement from the department. Officers found the woman with severe injuries. She was then taken to Lowell General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

“Authorities are examining whether poor lighting in the area may have been a contributing factor,” police said about the crash, which remains under investigation.
