Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting on Wednesday involving a police officer in Boylston.
The Worcester County District Attorney’s office said the investigation is in its “very early stages.”
“There is no threat to the general public,” the office said.
Just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, Boylston police said a heavy police presence should be expected in the area of Central Street and French Drive, including K9 and drone units. At the time, the department said it was looking for a 25-year-old man who should be considered “armed and dangerous.”
Later in the day, the Town of Boylston issued an alert to residents and drivers, urging them to avoid Central Street between French Drive and Cross Street “due to an ongoing investigation.”
“The Boylston Police Department reports that there is an active crime scene, however, there is no active threat or danger to the community,” the alert read. “There will be a police presence in the area throughout the day, because of the investigation that is underway.”
It was not immediately clear if the investigation on Central Street was connected to the officer-involved shooting or the previous alert for a police presence in the area.
