An MBTA commuter rail train crashed into a car Sunday night at a crossing in Concord, officials reported.
The driver of the car sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lahey Clinic by the Concord Fire Department, according to a statement from the department.
“We are grateful that this incident did not result in more serious injuries,” said Concord Fire Chief Thomas Judge in the statement. “Our crews, along with our police and EMS partners, responded quickly to provide care and ensure the scene was secured.”
The train was headed west toward Fitchburg on Feb. 23 and the fire department responded to a report of a crash around 7 p.m. at Conant Street. The train was going at a “low rate of speed,” according to the statement.
Keolis Commuter Services, who operates the commuter rail, said in a statement that the crossing gates and warning lights “were working as intended, and no injuries have been reported on board the train.”
The Fitchburg Line Train 2411 was “terminated” after the incident and an extra train was dispatched for passengers to continue service outbound, according to an X post from MBTA Commuter Rail.
The incident is being investigated by MBTA Police, according to the statement.
