A 32-year-old Fall River man died Tuesday after falling from a ladder at a construction site in Martha’s Vineyard, officials said Wednesday.
Edgartown police and EMS responded to a report at 7:43 a.m. on Feb. 11 of a man, later identified as Jose Luis Collaguazo Crespo, who fell from a second-story ladder onto a cement basement floor, according to a statement from the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office.
Crespo was transported to a hospital where he “succumbed to his injuries,” according to the statement.
“District Attorney [Robert] Galibois’s thoughts are with the victims’ loved ones during this difficult time and tragic accident,” the statement said.
Investigators ruled the death as an accident and, while still monitoring the situation, are not pursuing a criminal investigation, according to the statement. Any potential negligence by the developer would fall under civil and not criminal jurisdiction, the district attorney noted.
