Two Marblehead sisters have received a flood of support from their community after the sudden loss of both their parents in less than a year.

Emma and Charlotte St. George, 17 and 13, lost their mother, Katie to breast cancer in May and their father, Jeff, died from a severe infection on Jan. 20 after being in the hospital for a week, according to the family’s GoFundMe page.

“Jeff and Katie were not only cherished friends, but also loving parents to their two beautiful and amazing daughters,” wrote Elisabeth Salvi, the fundraiser’s organizer.

The GoFundMe, which has raised more than $180,000 as of Monday morning, aims to cover “educational and unforeseen costs” as the two sisters transition to living with Jeff’s sister.

Jeff studied at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and graduated with a degree in landscape architecture in 1998, according to his obituary. At UMass, he met Katie Martin, also an architecture student.

“Together they built a life rooted in love, respect, and mutual support as a couple, and most importantly, as the proud parents of their two amazing daughters,” his obituary wrote. “Jeff was Katie’s rock throughout her illness and primary caretaker to the end while still being an amazing dad to the girls.”

Jeff and Katie were both involved in the Marblehead community, particularly in the public school sphere. Katie worked to support the local school system and create outdoor learning spaces, according to her obituary. Jeff always showed up for his daughters’ sports games and acted as a coach at times, according to his obituary.

“Favorite times were on the water on the RustyChap with his family, his Supper Club, woodworking, relaxing on the porch of the Corinthian, long walks with his four-legged buddy, Bob Robert, holidays filled with love and laughter, the Christmas lights on his enormous tree on West Shore Drive, rooting for the Patriots…it just goes on,” Jeff’s obituary reads in part.

Instead of a memorial service, a celebration of life will be held at a later date in the summer.
