A cheer coach at Quincy High School is on administrative leave after they gave drugs to students and “shared inappropriate images online,” school leaders told families on Friday.

Quincy Superintendent of Schools Kevin Mulvey wrote in a letter to families that the district is investigating a high school varsity cheer coaching staff member for allegedly violating state and federal laws, including breaching confidentiality by sharing student private information.

Mulvey said the staff member, who was not identified, gave Quincy High School students alcohol and marijuana on at least one occasion.

“While these very serious allegations are being investigated, the employee has been placed on administrative leave,” Mulvey said. “This investigation remains active, and not all of the details are currently known to the school department. As more information becomes available, we will update the school community as soon as possible.”

Mulvey declined to comment further on the incident Sunday evening. Quincy Police Chief Mark Kennedy told Boston.com that the department’s Special Investigation Unit is working with the district to investigate the matter.

No other details were immediately available Sunday evening.
