Switch issues on the Commuter Rail Thursday night left hundreds of riders stranded for hours, officials say.
Around 6:30 p.m., the MBTA said that a Foxboro Line train would bypass Ruggles and Back Bay, operating instead on the Fairmount Line due to a switch issue.
Passengers on the Needham Line, Franklin/Foxboro, and Providence/Stoughton Lines experienced “severe delays in both directions,” transit officials said on X.
“Stuck for over an hour so far. Please get us off of here,” one user commented on the social media alert.
“Let me OFFFFFFFFF,” another user wrote.
The MBTA posted a subsequent alert at 9:25 p.m. saying the switch issue had been resolved, but not without “residual delays in both directions.”
The switch problem caused Providence Train 836 to depart two hours and 15 minutes behind schedule, the MBTA said.
